Le Mans 2025 — race report & highlights
Just back from Le Mans for the third consecutive year and honestly it never gets old. A few highlights: The hypercar battle was genuinely unpredictable this year. The Toyota GR010 led for 14 hours before a gearbox issue dropped it to third. The Ferrari 499P #51 came through in extraordinary fashion after a nose change at 3am. The atmosphere at night is something photographs will never capture — 300,000 people under the stars, 50+ cars screaming down the Mulsanne at 340+ km/h (yes, modern LMH prototypes on the two straights), the smell of warm brakes and fuel. If you've never been: GO. One year. Just do it. Happy to answer questions about logistics, camping, where to watch from, best grandstands.
Third year in a row for you — that's dedication. I've been twice and I agree entirely: the night session is the defining experience. Standing at Maison Blanche at 2am with 10 prototypes screaming past every 3-4 minutes is something that bypasses rational thought and goes straight to the nervous system.
The Ferrari 499P programme has been one of the most compelling manufacturer re-entries in Le Mans history. They returned in 2023 after 50 years and won first time out. The way the team handled the pressure was impressive. For 2025, having multiple privateer 499Ps alongside the factory cars made the GT/Hypercar midfield incredibly dense. Great racing.
Went for the first time this year after years of meaning to. James is completely right — logistics are manageable if you plan ahead. We camped at the Ford Chicane grandstand area: excellent sightlines, not too far a walk to the village. What surprised me: the demographics. Every age, every nationality, families, hardcore racing fans, people who'd never watched an F1 race. It's genuinely universal.
Ho visto la gara in TV (sono stata a Le Mans solo una volta, nel 2019). Devo assolutamente tornarci. La lotta tra Ferrari e Toyota nell'ultimo stint è stata cinematografica. Per chi vuole venire per la prima volta: i biglietti per le tribune principali vanno prenotati 6-8 mesi in anticipo. Imparare da questa esperienza per il 2026!
